Newtown Academy will be holding a trials evening on tomorrow night (Tuesday 29th May) from 6pm for Under 12s and Tuesday, 12th June 6pm for Under 14s at Latham Park.

Newtown Academy provides the talented players from the Mid and North Powys Junior League an opportunity to play in the Welsh Premier Academy League. From these fixtures, players are identified for regional and national squads. The Academy has also lined up friendly fixtures against a number of English league clubs and have a close link with a number of West Midland football clubs.

This season three Newtown Academy Under 14 players, Josh Baldwin, Ryan Sears and Alex Jones, were selected to represent Central Wales in the Cymru Cup, a national tournament for academies ay under 14 age.

"The Academy has Uefa qualified coaches at all age groups, and is now working in close partnership with the Welsh Football Trust to provide a coach mentoring scheme where the Newtown Academy coaches benefit from learning from professional coaches on modern and dynamic techniques for player development. The Academy has also formed strong relations with Powys Schools Football Association and the Central Wales Youth Squads. These links have ensured that Newtown Academy players will also have the opportunity to play representative football," said Academy administrator, Owen Durbridge.

"The Academy has formed a new partnership with Coleg Powys Newtown, which will see the Under 19s linked the college, providing a full time educational sports course along with football at the highest level."

Mr Durbridge added: "The aim at Newtown Academy is to provide an opportunity for local talented footballers to achieve Welsh Premier football.  The focus is developing local talent, giving them players the best coaching, the best facilities, the best equipment and the best all round environment so they can develop into being the best player they possibly can".
