Olympic Torch success... and more to come

28/05/2012 @ 02:52

The Olympic torch entered Montgomeryshire today for the first of two visits this week, and although it's not coming to Newtown, residents still have the chance to witness this once in a lifetime opportunity when it re-enters the area on Wednesday.

Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles kicked off the relay in Aberystwyth this morning before it headed to Machynlleth where crowds lined the streets to see the flame carried by individuals who had been nominated for charity and other efforts.

The flame then headed towards Dolgellau where it passes through North Wales before coming back to Llanymynech and Welshpool on Wednesday. It leaves Chester in the morning, travelling down the A483 to Welshpool and then across to Shrewsbury before ending the day in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

But if you want to see the torch relay in Welshpool make sure you get there early as roadblocks will be in place and parking will be at a premium.

Maps highlighting the route and landmarks such as toilets and car parks can be found at www.powys.gov.uk/olympics, as well as more information and frequently asked questions. Information can also be provided by calling 0845 602 7030.
