Funding to help charities deliver debt management

Two charities have been awarded funding the the MoneySavingexpert.com charitable fund to provide money management and debt advice to vulnerable people in Newtown and at an outreach centre in Welshpool.

The Ponthafren Association and Powys CAB have been awarded the grant to provide the services at the Ponthafren Centre in Longbridge Street, Newtown and its outreach centre in Welshpool.

Nicky Morris, Co-ordinator at Ponthafren said, “In this current financial climate, this grant will enable us to support vulnerable people to manage their money and also maximise their income. This partnership with the CAB is every exciting and we hope that by offering this service in both our centres, we can support a lot of people to get out of debt and move forward’. 

The Association provides an essential service to support local people with mental health issues of any kind, such as depression and anxiety, and those affected by social isolation. The project will kick off with a one off workshop on Thursday the 31^st May between 11am till 1.30pm at Ponthafren in Newtown, where people can explore issues which they would like extra help with and then access the one-to-one sessions with a trained CAB advisor held on site. One to one sessions in Newtown will start on the 28^th of June and be every fortnight after that. 

One-to-One appointments can be booked to discuss any money issues, budgeting, benefits, help with unclaimed PPI claims and much, much more. *Anyone needing in depth debt or welfare benefit advice will be made appt with appropriate CAB advise. For more details see www.ponthafren.org.uk or call 01686 621586.
