Clinton Cards under threat in Broad Street

There's more doom and gloom for Newtown town centre today with news that Clinton Cards faces an uncertain future after one of its main suppliers threatened to put it into administration.

There had already been unconfirmed speculation that the Newtown store was under the spotlight for closure by the company but, if it is placed into administration it would mean the company either ceasing trading completely or administrators looking at ways of paying creditors and selling the business on - which could mean some parts of the business remaining operational.

Clinton Cards is located at the entrance to the Bear Lanes shopping centre in Broad Street and if it was to close it would be another hammer blow for the town centre which has seen numerous independent and chain stores close over the past few years. High Street has also been badly hit with The Angel public house closing last month, next door to two stores either side of the Market Hall that have already closed.

DVD rental store Blockbuster is also due to close its outlet in High Street later this month.
