The inaugural meeting of the Newtown Town Partnership has taken place, attracting representatives from the private, public and third sectors.

The meeting was held at 23 Social in the town centre. It was formed following a consultation by Newtown Town Council.

Cllr Chris Jones, who represents the town council on the partnership, said: " This is an exciting development and it's hoped that by working together we'll be able to improve many aspects of life in our town.

"This initiative has been introduced as a means to address the complex issues faced by traders and community groups in our area and also to communicate and share local successes.

This first meeting, held at 23 Social in Broad Street, was well attended with representatives from fourteen Newtown businesses meeting with seven 3rd sector organisations and eight Newtown and Powys councillors.

"Votes were taken to begin forming the committee and the group shared thoughts on what they love about living and working in Newtown along with suggestions about what they'd like to see improved. It was relaxed and positive and the next meeting will be held in January."
