A project aimed at reducing energy use and lowering residents bills in Newtown has been launched.
The Open Energy project, operated by Open Newtown, is being funded by dormant bank accounts via the National Lottery Community Fund.
"Open Energy wishes to see the community come together and get involved with a project with the aim of saving people money in their homes," said an Open Energy spokesperson.
"It aims to benefit people and the planet at the same time. The project focuses on energy efficiency, hoping to inform residents on how they can lower their energy bills, which will also reduce our collective CO2 emissions. This is especially important in Newtown, as Powys is one of the least energy-efficient areas in the UK."
Open Energy plans to host several programmes; these include:
oEnergy efficiency and sustainability education oCommunity outreach days oHelpful tips and advice oRepair Cafés oUniform exchanges and clothing swaps oHome energy efficiency audits oSignposting to existing support and funding
“Climate concerns, understandably, might be the least of people’s worries during the current cost-of-living crisis, which is why the Open Energy project aims to help and support people first. We are working hard to share information that will save people money on their energy bills while also benefiting the planet by reducing CO2 emissions and waste. Both problems can be tackled at the same time. This is an exciting project," added the spokesperson.
