The restoration of one of Newtown's historic churches will be celebrated at an event next weekend.

Work has been completed restoring All Saints Church on Commercial Street and on Saturday, 2 December the Newtown Local History Group will host a history and heritage event at the church between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

"The event will celebrate the restoration and its original benefactor, Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones," said Ann Evans of the group.

"There will be a film and slide show and time to share photographs and stories on All Saints Church event and Pryce Jones who's family business were major employers and held sports and music events which entertained tens of thousands of people annually.

"Pryce Jones was knighted in 1887 and in tribute to Queen Victoria the royal patron of his mail order business he decided to commission architect Aston Webb and be the benefactor of All Saints Church which cost £4,000 to build during 1888 - 1890."
