Newtown firm to extend festive leave

22/11/2023 @ 02:08
Employees at a Newtown business are set to take an extra week's leave in the run up to Christmas due to a slowdown in orders.

Control Techniques, which is one of the area's largest employers, has told staff it will be slowing down production until the end of this year due to a reduction in orders.

It is understood staff were given the news in the past week with the company saying the reduced output will ensure employees have work.

The company employs several hundred people at sites on the Mochdre Industrial Estate and Pool Road in Newtown.

It is understood the shutdown will form part of an extended Christmas break.

A company statement said: "Control Techniques workers at the Mochdre Industrial Estate site will be taking an additional week of leave during December, half to be paid by the company and the remainder to be taken as holiday or as time off in lieu owed by the company, with any remaining balance only to be taken as unpaid leave after all other measures have been exhausted.”

The company was founded in Newtown in 1973 and manufactures motor control technology. It is owned by Nidec, a multinational company.

The company has blamed the slowdown on customers overstocking following Covid and the linked supply chain issues that affected companies globally.
