Choir raises the roof for cancer charity

Newtown and District Male Voice Choir has raised £275 for Testicular Cancer charity.

The choir performed at the town's Morrisons store last weekend when it raised the money for charity as part of Testicular Care Awareness Month.

"The event was organised by Jenny Coppell, Morrisons Newtown’s Community Champion. There was also a raffle, and opportunities to buy purple cancer symbol brooches made by Paula Roberts and the Newtown Knit and Knatter group, with all proceeds being added to the collection," said Jonathan Davies of the choir.

Testicular Cancer is the most common cancer in males aged between 15 and 34. One man is diagnosed with it every hour, and one man dies from it every day. If detected early, 99 per cent of men diagnosed with testicular cancer will survive.

"The choir was pleased to be able to support this excellent cause and to perform in Newtown again after two years of Covid restrictions," added Jonathan.

Jenny, Morrisons Newtown’s Community Champion said: “Can I just say thank you to the choir and to the choir’s Musical Director Sarah. You raised the roof and the money was pouring in.”

More information about the choir is available on their website www.newtownmalevoicechoir.com.
