Town Partnership idea put forward

07/04/2022 @ 03:43
A town partnership could be launched to bring people from all parts of life in the town together to build its future.

Newtown Town Council has launched a survey to find out what interest there is in forming the Newtown Partnership.

"The idea came out of the Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Place Plan “OUR TOWN, OUR PLAN" which was developed with the local community between 2019-2021. The Place Plan sets out the town’s aspirations on a wide range of topics for the 15 years between 2021-2036, many of which need effort of many organisations and individuals across a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience," said a town council statement.

"In its simplest form a Town Partnership can influence and enable others.  There are plenty of ideas in the Place Plan to choose from – economic, social, environmental – all of which have come from grass-roots community consultation, for example to improve tourism, enhance overall social facilities, and helping to tackle climate change."

It added: "This survey is intended to gauge whether there is an appetite for a Town Partnership, and to invite potential contributors to a Town Partnership to it express an interest."

Organisations could be represented on the partnership and the town council has launched a form for "expressions of interest."

Closing date for expression of interest responses is 30th April 2022.

Town Clerk, Ed Humphreys encourages organisations to join forces. He said: “The Town Council invites your organisation to express an interest in being part of a Town Partnership of Public, Private, and Voluntary sectors working together and speaking together, to influence and co-ordinate what each sector can contribute to the future of the community.

"A Town Partnership will try to bring together the assets of knowledge, skills and experience in Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn to work toward the long term sustainable benefit of the community – economic, social, and environmental.

"The emphasis is on working and speaking together for the common good of the community as a whole and help make it a better place for everyone to live, learn, work and visit."
