Nominations are in for local county council elections

Nominations are in for the Powys County Council elections due to be held on 5 May.

The deadline for nominations was yesterday and we can reveal all the contests.

In Newtown there are several sitting councillors facing a contest, apart from Joy Jones in Newtown East.

There have been changes to the wards in the town with two councillors sitting in Newtown Central and South, which has been merged into one ward.

In Llanidloes there is also a contest between nine people for two seats.

The full list of nominations is below:

In Newtown North:
Adam Dale Kennerley (Lib Dem)
Jackie Molloy-Davies (Independent)
Dan Rowlands (Conservatives)

In Newtown Central and South, two seats will be contested by:
Darryl Gwilt (Conservative)
Kelly Healey (Lib Dem)
Paul George Sawtell (Conservative)
David Mark Selby (Lib Dem)
Les Skilton (Independent)

In Newtown West there is a contest between:
Gill Bridgwater (Independent)
Peter Arthur Lewington (Conservative)
Harry Robson (Lib Dem)
Gillian Thurston (Plaid Cymru)

There is no contest in Newtown East for Joy Jones (Independent)

In Kerry, a contest will be between:
Benjamin Breeze (Conservative)
Kath Roberts-Jones (Independent)

There is no contest in Llandinam and Dolfor for Karl Lewis (Conservative).


Dolforwyn (Abermule)
Sitting councillor, Gareth Michael Pugh (Conservatives) is facing a contest from Alan Meredith-Jones (Lib Dem).

In Llanidloes there is a contest for the election of two county councillors between nine people. They are:

Phyl Davies (Conservative)
John Raymond Dore
Graham Maurice Jones (Independent)

In Caersws, existing councillor Leslie Albert George (Conservatives) faces a contest with Mik Norman (Green)
