Residents and organisations in Newtown are being urged to organise street parties and events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June.
Russell George, Member of the Senedd for Montgomeryshire, said many communities in north Powys were already planning events to celebrate the 70 years since the start of the Queen’s reign.
The major Platinum Jubilee celebrations will begin on Thursday, 2 June and continue over the weekend until 5 June.
The Platinum Jubilee fell on Sunday, 6 February.
Mr George said: ‘’I was delighted to be able to attend Guilsfields Jubilee launch recently. The village has done a remarkable job on kicking off the celebrations and creating excitement in the lead up to the big weekend in June.’’
‘’I strongly urge other local communities to get involved and plan celebrations for what is set to be a fantastic weekend which will highlight 70 years of dedicated public service by her Majesty.’’
