Councillors to be urged to back awareness campaign

22/11/2021 @ 09:32

Newtown's Mayor wants to make the town council and its work more visual and relevant to the public.

The Mayor, Cllr Richard Williams, will propose a motion to increase awareness of the work of the council and councillors through social media and a campaign.

His report to councillors will encourage greater use of its social media channels and to run a campaign fronted by him to encourage more engagement with local people, explaining the role of the council and his colleagues.

He said: "NLTC could commence a campaign, fronted by the Mayor in his role as Chair of Council in giving information about the Town Council, the role of councillors, the processes around allowances and the powers of the Town Council.

"It is anticipated that this campaign would consist of social media videos, posts and information.

"The campaign would be factual in basis and not political or giving opinions."

The campaign would also include sections on the website about each councillor, including their attendance records and any payments they receive as a councillor.
