School targeted by vandals - again

Vandals have targeted Cedewain School in Plantation Lane, Newtown, damaging the roof and a minibus. It is the latest attack on the school in recent weeks, costing thousands of pounds in damage.

Police said perpetrators climbed on to the roof of the sachool sometime between over the weekend (19th and 22nd August).

"The roof of one of the buildings has been climbed upon and damage has been caused to the tiles. The perpetrators have then made their way to one of the minibuses located on the site and bent the metal arms of the windscreen wipers. The total cost of this damage is estimated between £400 to £500," said Pc Ryan Sweetman of Newtown police.

"This is becoming an increasing problem for the school and they have suffered similar damage in recent weeks resulting in heavy repair bills."

Police would like to speak to any witnesses who may have information in relation to this incident. They would like residents to also be vigilant; if persons are seen within the school grounds then please contact police immediately. The non emergency number of 101 can be utilised or if they feel that there is an ongoing crime please ring 999.
