Fraud totalling £5.3m prevented in the area

More than £780,000 of fraud and errors have been prevented in the area by Powys County Council officers, it has been revealed.
The council said the money was related to Covid-19 grants to businesses in the area.
It said its Corporate Anti-Fraud Team had prevented a total of £5.3 million in feud and errors since it was formed in 2015.
This figure includes £2,348,195 in recoverable overpayments and £3,007,849 in fraud and errors which were prevented, allowing this money to be spent instead on providing services for those in genuine need.
Cllr Aled Davies, PCC’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Finance, said: “The council is opposed to all forms of fraud and corruption, and is determined to protect against such actions, whether attempted from within the council or by outside individuals, groups or organisations.
"So, if you are aware of anyone committing fraud, please report it. That way we will have more money to spend on services which will benefit everyone in the county.”
