Plea for festive volunteers

A plea has gone out for volunteers to help make Newtown's Christmas extra special.
The town council needs volunteers to help at its Kicking Off Christmas event and lights switch on taking place on Saturday, 27 November.
"To maintain the overall safety of the community events in Newtown we have been fortunate to kindly have the assistance of a group of stewards in past years that have overseen general crowd control and supported the running of the event," said a town council spokesperson.
"Unfortunately, it has come to light that many of these stewards have “hung up their high vis” and taken retirement from their voluntary service.
"We are therefore looking to find a small team of stewards to help support the Kicking off Christmas event, gathering at 4.30pm for an Event brief until 8pm. Locations will be in both Town Hall Grounds and Bear Lanes to support the Christmas Market."
