Free leisure centre activities for the over 60's

03/11/2021 @ 07:00
Over 60's in Newtown can now gain free access to activities at the Maldwyn Leisure Centre.

Freedom Leisure, who manage Powys County Council leisure centres, has teamed up with the local authority to offer the free activities. They will also be available at Welshpool and Llanidloes leisure centres.

The scheme will support those aged 60+ in looking after their health, well-being and recognises the challenges they have faced over the last 18 months.

Cllr Rachel Powell, Cabinet Member for Powys County Council’s Children’s Services says: “This is a very welcomed scheme, which reaffirms the message that being healthy is important throughout life’s journey and provides so many benefits, physically, emotionally, as well as in wellbeing. Keeping moving is absolutely key and with this offer, I am confident that those who are eligible, will seize this opportunity and feel so much better for doing so.”

Gwyn Owen, Freedom Leisure Powys, Area Manager says: “This is a great way for those aged 60 and over to get back into regular exercise and for those who are already active and just want to stay that way. Many people have less confidence in themselves since the start of the pandemic. We would like to reassure everyone that we are here to support and welcome you back to exercise in a safe & friendly environment”.

The scheme is available from October until January and is available at Freedom Leisure suites at Flash (Welshpool), Rhayader, Maldwyn (Newtown), Bro Ddyfi (Machynlleth), Knighton, Brecon and Ystradgynlais.

This offer is available for instructed day time circuit sessions and fitness suite sessions.
