Continued rise in coronavirus cases

01/11/2021 @ 11:57
More than 25,000 coronavirus booster doses have been given in the area and 60 per cent of 12-15-years-olds offered a first dose have taken it up.

Powys has the highest first and second dose vaccination rate in Wales, with 91.1 per cent of over 18s having their first dose and 87.2 per cent receiving their second dose.

"We also have the highest vaccination rates in Wales for 16-17 year olds, with 82.5% of this age group receiving their first dose (Wales average = 74.3%). Around 60% of 12-15 year olds have also taken up their first dose," said Adrian Osborne of the Powys Teaching Health Board.

"Coronavirus continues to circulate. Confirmed coronavirus case rates in continue to be at their highest levels since the pandemic began.

"There is good evidence that two doses of the vaccine prevent serious illness from COVID-19, and that a booster helps to maintain that protection, but we all need to assume that we can catch the virus and transmit it even if we have had the vaccine. Case rates are particularly high amongst teenagers right now."
