29/10/2021 @ 11:21
Llanidloes will join Newtown in hosting a Global Day of Action next week.

Events have already been announced for Newtown, including a march and cycle to the town centre to presents a petition calling for more ambitious commitments from COP26 in Glasgow.

In Llanidloes, organisers are arranging several events on 6 November, including one at the Minerva Centre at 10am and a march through the town.

"Inside the Minerva Centre will be displays and stalls highlighting the climate emergency and possible solutions with opportunity for people to make posters or write letters to their MP & SM," said Duncan Burwood.

"From 11am, members of the public will be encouraged to take the microphone to express their concerns and ideas about managing the crisis.

"At midday, a gathering with posters, music and puppets (courtesy of Puppet Soup workshop) will take place in front of the Minerva Centre followed by a circuit of Great Oak Street as the event climax.

"We hope to have a live link to friends from Llanidloes who will be in Glasgow in person."

On Sunday, 7 November, an event will take place at Old Chapel Farm, from 2pm, courtesy of the Wilderness Trust. There will be food, puppet making (with Puppet Soup), bonfire, farm tour, film show & a talk by Scott Bennett, well known speaker on environmental issues.

Mr Burwood added: "We also encourage everyone to sign the following petition, started by Climate Action Newtown, to be presented to Craig Williams MP and Russell George MS, on 6th November.:-
We, the undersigned, call on the UK and Welsh Governments to:
Make more ambitious commitments at COP26
Take more ambitious action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Immediately end all fossil fuel subsidies and exploration ."
