Newtown's Town Clerk has received a top national award for his work.

Ed Humphreys, who is clerk to Newtown Town Council and Churchstoke Community Council, has received an award from the Society of Local Council Clerks.

The organisation represents clerks to over 5,000 town, parish and community councils in England and Wales and has awarded Ed the Bryan Metcalf Award for Volunteering.

It is in memory of one of SLCC’s longest serving volunteers.

The award is given to a clerk who has demonstrated exceptional voluntary service and was announced at SLCC’s annual National Conference this week.

Ed has been a member of SLCC for 25 years and has supported the work of SLCC at local and national level.

The award recognises his active support of fellow clerks and his outstanding contribution to the profession as a whole.

Ed said: “I’m delighted to receive the award from so many professional colleagues. It’s indeed an honour and I thank the town council and community council for their support. I hope it also helps raise the profile of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn and Churchstoke for the better."

Cllr Richard William, Mayor of Newtown, said: “Congratulations to our Town Clerk, Ed Humphreys on this prestigious sector award for his hard work, dedication and exceptional voluntary service over a long period. Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is again being highlighted on the national stage for work of its staff.
