Support is mounting to get outdated and inadequate changing rooms at Newtown Sports Club.
Newtown Town Council is latest organisation to back calls for funding to provide new facilities at the recreation ground on Pool Road where the town's tennis, rugby and cricket clubs have changing facilities.
A motion brought by Cllr Pete Lewington at the town council was passed by colleagues.
He raised a motion a motion for "the town council to support Newtown Sports Club’s funding requests for Modern fit for purpose changing room facilities.
"The club wants to build modern, fit for purpose changing room facilities to serve the sports provided as the existing changing rooms are not fit for purpose as requirements in relation to Health and safety, child protection, female and disabled participation have quite rightly increase," said the council.
The sports club has proposed to build two new changing rooms which embrace carbon neutral construction methods and green energy sources.
"Whilst the Town Council is unable to provide any financial assistance its support of the clubs funding applications coordinated through Powys County Council would be extremely helpful," said the council.
The motion stated: “The Town Council requests to the Town Clerk to write to the Sports Development manager (Elin Wozencraft) at Powys County Council who is supporting the club with their funding applications confirming the Town Council’s support of the club’s intentions to upgrade the changing room facilities to enable the club to continue to make its massive contribution to health and wellbeing in Newtown and the surround areas."
The motion was passed.
