TIC set to re-open next month

Newtown's tourist information centre and town council service point is likely to re-open next month.

Councillors will be given an update on plans to re-open the centre in the town council building at The Cross on Monday. The information centre and TIC were closed to the public at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

The council has been undertaking risk assessments and implementing measures to ensure it's safe for the public and employees to use.

:The intention is that - supplies permitting - these are acquired and installed by the end of July ready for re-opening service in place for week beginning Monday 2nd August," said a report from the Town Clerk.

"Given the limited number of staff (1.5 FTE) and considerations of lone working, the approach being taken is to start gradually, provisionally 3 days a week, to test out the safe systems of work then (if systems are satisfactory) work up to usual hours, rather than start over ambitious and have to retreat if measures do not work."
