Weekend spike in Covid-19 cases

06/07/2021 @ 07:16

The number of positive Covid-19 cases in the areas is rising significantly with a jump in the number of people having to self-isolate.

A spike in positive cases over the weekend has seen a large number of people having to self-isolate after being contacted by Track and Trace.

There are now a total of more than 400 cases in Newtown. This follows a dramatic drop into double figures over the previous month. Official stats for the weekend are yet to published by Public Health Wales.

The recently opened 23 Social in Newtown yesterday posted on Facebook to say a number of its staff have had to self-isolate and said as a responsible business it would be closed while it undertakes a precautionary deep clean.

It said it would be open at full capacity this weekend but wanted to ensure the safety of customers and staff in the meantime.

It is understood several other businesses in the town have also been affected with staff having to self-isolate and work from home.

Powys County Council and the Powys Teaching Health Board are continuing to urge people to have lateral flow tests at the Park Street Day Centre whether they have symptoms or not.

The rise in the Delta variant of Covid-19 is a national problem, although both Newtown and Welshpool has seen a jump over the past week.
