Groups offered share of £50,000 community fund

Community groups and charities in Newtown are being invited to apply for a share of fund as part of the third anniversary of Hafren Dyfrdwy.
The water company, which covers Powys, Wrexham and Flintshire, has set up a £50,000 fund for community groups, local charities and non-profit organisations.
The fund will specifically support new projects that aim to make a difference within its community.
The company will be releasing £25,000 over two periods of the year, with groups able to apply for a grant of between £2,000 and £10,000.
The projects will be assessed by a panel made up of customers and Hafren Dyfrdwy employees, who will ultimately decide which projects are successful.
James Jesic, Hafren Dyfrdwy Managing Director said: “It’s incredibly important to us to be right at the heart of our community, and now more than ever, we want to make sure we’re able to help and support in any way we can.
“That’s why we’ve created this brand new fund, to play our role in making sure some incredible, local community projects have the extra cash boost they need to get off the ground and get going.
“We know there are plenty of local groups out there that could benefit from a grant from our new fund and we’re incredibly keen to make a real difference to those communities.”
The company is currently in the process of creating the panel, which will meet up to review the strongest applications and have the final decision on which projects are funded. The Fund will be opening for applications from September 2021.
The Fund will support projects that aim to improve community wellbeing across three core themes:
People: Projects that help people to lead a healthier life and gain new skills;
Place: Ideas that help create better places to live in and use; and
Environment: Schemes that will help look after the natural environment, and give people greater access to that environment or help look after water.
“After the year we’ve had, we knew we had to do something to give even more back to the community, and provide more hope and support when it comes to connecting with our communities and environment,” adds James. “We’re hopeful that through this brand new Community Fund, we’ll see plenty of projects and fantastic ideas that will truly set out to make a difference and help our communities bounce back, and reconnect with one another.
