A no dig policy has been put in place around the castle mound, Trehafren Hill ands Vaynor fields areas after young people were found to be digging around them.

Open Newtown, which manages 140 acres of recreational and other areas in the town, said some youngsters had been found 'excavating' in the areas without regard for safety.

"Areas around the castle mound, Trehafren hill and Vaynor fields were being excavated without any consideration for safety, so a blanket “no dig” policy has been instated until such time as our new Park Ranger and Youth Engagement Office are in role and able to meet the youths in question, to focus their energies safely," said a report going to Newtown Town Council's Services Committee.
