Waste collections from bins in public areas managed and maintained by Open Newtown could soon be taken in-house.

The organisation, which manages 140 acres of green space in Newtown and delivers sustainable community projects is also looking to revamp bins on the land to be able to cope with the litter left.

A report to Newtown Town Council's Services Committee, said: "The waste management tenders have been contacted and Open Newtown is in the business of reconsidering its approach to outsourcing its waste collection and bring it in-house."

It added: "Support is being given by Keep Wales Tidy for a revamp of the bin furniture appropriate to the type and weight of waste collected at the bin locations within the parks and open spaces based on direct research carried out by local litter picking champions.

"Signage has been produced to be installed in litter cleared areas by volunteers to make it clear that volunteers have cleared up membersof the public’s rubbish."
