Work refurbishing Newtown Hafren entertainment venue, including the exterior cladding, is underway.

Officials at the venue said the work was being undertaken for possible re-opening later in the year.

The exterior cladding of of the Fly Tower, damaged by storms several years ago after just being installed, is being replaced.

"As soon as Welsh Government regulations allow, and it is financially viable, we want to be ready to welcome customers back in to enjoy a very delayed programme of events," said a spokesperson.

"We are anticipating rigorous regulation with regards to Aair circulation in public buildings. We have commissioned a Plant Room redesign including new, modern, heating and air circulation systems.

"These works will likely take place over the summer, so we will be ahead of the game come autumn 2021, not only for health reasons, but increasing our environmental sustainability too."

He said the renovation to the storm-damaged fly tower is expected to finish in early June.

"The work has involved the removal and replacement of all cladding, re-covering the roof, installing new electronically operated smoke vents in addition to erecting new signage and lightning conductors."
