Concern over traffic delays at Nantoer

Residents and businesses in Newtown have raised concerns about the work making the road under Nantoer bridge single lane.

An online campaign has been taking place over the past week about the work underway to create a larger path under the bridge between Llanidloes Road and the college.

It means the road will be permanently made into single lane and controlled by traffic lights.

The work is part of a wider scheme to improve walking and cycling in Newtown following the opening of the bypass two years ago.

Work is now underway on the project. However, the campaign is likely to fall on deaf ears as the plans were put out to planning consultation several months ago.

Yesterday, the work was halted to allow two-way traffic following the closure of the bypass due to the fatal road accident.

Last week queues began forming along Llanidloes Road and past the college due to work being undertaken and traffic lights in operation.
