Newtown sits bottom of UK driving test waiting times

Newtown has one of the longest waiting times for a driving test in the UK, it has emerged.

In Wales, Newtown and Merthyr Tydfil sit side by side in learner drivers having to wait 15 weeks from applying for to sitting their practical driving text. If you're taking your test in Llandrindod Wells you'll have to wait 18 weeks.

From 22 April driving tests will resume at Newtown and throughout the UK.

The delays are due to the coronavirus pandemic after DVSA centres closed.

Carlisle has the shortest wait at just four weeks. Behind Carlisle - and with a wait of just five weeks - is Galashiels in the Scottish borders, according to official DVSA figures obtained by heycar through a Freedom Of Information Request.

The longest wait to sit a driving test in Britain is now 18 weeks, heycar has discovered.

That unwanted achievement is shared by locations including Halifax (Maltings), Cheadle, Isle of Scilly, Crieff and Llandrindod Wells.

Dan Powell, Senior Editor at heycar comments: “Our latest research provides the most accurate snapshot of the impact of the coronavirus on driving tests so far.

“So, as many motorists look forward to the joys of hitting the open road this summer, certain learner drivers will be going nowhere.

“The DVSA say they are putting in place measures to increase the number of tests, including offering overtime and encouraging qualified examiners to return."
