Repairs offered to community buildings

07/04/2021 @ 07:50
Community groups and charities in Newtown are being offered the chance to have help with building work by a construction firm pledging to support the local community.

It also wants young people in the area to come forward if they want to learn construction skills on the community projects.

Pave Aways is currently constructing two new social housing projects in Newtown for Powys County Council and the Open Newtown Riverside venue. It is planning to open a new regional office at Ladywell House once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.

It wants to identify a village hall, community centre or sports club where it can provide general building repairs, decorating or plastering free of charge in Newtown.

It is also offering the same support in Welshpool.

During a recent project to build a new primary school in Welshpool, it carried out repairs and decorating at the new Welshpool base of the Ponthafren Association, maintenance on the Pavilion in Forden and improvements to the Jubilee Hut in Guilsfield and Welshpool Rugby and Cricket Club.

Pave Aways is also appealing for young and unemployed people who want to learn construction skills to work with it on these community projects.

Managing Director Steven Owen said: “We are committed to supporting the communities where we live and work and would like pay something back to organisations that deserve our help.

“It might be a village hall that needs a lick of paint, a sports pavilion that needs some updating or another building that provides facilities for local people that is in need of our professional skills.

“We also want to help people who are out of work to join us in these community projects and get some free construction experience. We will give them some advice and training so they can learn more about working in construction and possibly open up new career opportunities for them.”

Any community organisation or person interested in working with Pave Aways should email michelle.benjamin@paveaways.co.uk.
