Libraries prepare to relaunch

Newtown Library and others in the area are preparing to relaunch services next week following changes in national COVID restrictions Powys County Council has confirmed.
 
The county’s library service is preparing to extend the service offer at all branches from March 29 following easing of national restrictions announced last week.
 
“We will continue to provide residents with a wide range of free online library resources around the clock, and this will be complimented by our very popular order and collect service, computer bookings and book browsing by appointment.  We have to make sure our libraries are COVID safe and so we are offering these services where possible from 29 March”, said Nina Davies, Head of Housing and Community Development.
 
Order and collect book-bags can continue to be collected from a wide range of libraries and community locations, including Llanfair Caereinion Library; Llanfyllin Library; Llanidloes Library; Machynlleth Library; Newtown Library; and Y Lanfa (Welshpool Library).

For those who cannot collect for themselves, a whole raft of volunteers and voluntary organisations are supporting and making doorstep deliveries.
 
Essential computer use and council transactions will be undertaken at Newtown and Y Lanfa (Welshpool) libraries.
 
Appointments or managed queues for browsing and selecting own books where staffing levels and space allows will be at Newtown, Y Lanfa (Welshpool), Llanidloes,
and Llanfair Caereinion libraries.
 
Borrowbox e-books, e-audio downloads and Emagazines continue to be available online for free. Other online resources such Ancestry.com are also available, and the free access has been extended until the end of June 2021.
