One in three people eligible for the Covid-19 vaccination have received the injection in the area.

Powys Teaching Health Board chief executive Carol Shillabeer said 40,000 people had now been vaccinated.

Newtown's national vaccination centre at the Maldwyn Leisure Centre, along with the team of health workers and volunteers, have ben instrumental in helping achieve the figures.

It comes as Wales announced it had reached its goal of offering the vaccine to all eligible people.

Ms Shillabeer said: “Huge effort and contribution to the #TeamVaccinationPowys achievement - 40,000 people vaccinated already in Powys (that’s approx 33% of eligible population).”

The vaccination programme will continue this week with the reserve list also opening for the 65-69 age group.
