Concern over dentist services in the area have been raised by Newtown town and Powys county councillor Joy Jones.

It follows a request to Newtown Town Council from its counterpart in Llandrindod Wells to write to the Powys Teaching Health Board about the state of dentistry services in Powys.

The council was asked to write to the health board raising its concerns during its monthly meeting on Monday.

There has been concern that many people have not sign up to dentists' in the area or to have appointments with their existing dentist.

Cllr Jones said the issue wasn't just affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Town Clerk, Ed Humphreys, said it would be good for the public to raise the matter the health board would see greater numbers contacting them about it.

Cllr Joy Jones, who champions health and poverty issues, said: "They really need to hear the views from members of the public. Therefore can we put something on our website to urge people to write to the health board?

"People are not getting dentistry services, and that's not just about the pandemic. It's been going on for a while."
