Some work will have to be scaled back on the new Newtown Riverside Venue due to the construction costs coming in more than the funding available.
Town councillors were told last night (Monday) that a contract had been awarded yesterday to build the new venue on the site of the old Radio Maldwyn studio. It forms part of the Open Newtown project which received funding from the Big Lottery Fund.
However, Cllr Mike Childs told councillors at their monthly meeting on Zoom that some work, such as changing triple glazing to double glazing and not completing the first floor interior straight away, would be needed to reduce costs initially.
He said they were hoping to find additional funding.
The contractor for the project was not named.
