Council urges businesses to check grant eligibility

Local businesses are being urged to check their eligibility for Covid-19 grass.
Businesses in the hospitality, tourism, leisure and retail sectors could be able to claim grants from Powys County Council.
In the last few weeks alone the county council has paid out over £6million in grant support from the Welsh Government’s Restrictions Business Fund.
The scheme is designed to ease some of the pressures faced by businesses as a result of the restrictions that began in December.
Grants of either £3,000 or £5,000 are available to those who pay businesses rates and fall within the hospitality, tourism, leisure or retail sectors. Most of these businesses have received their money automatically from the council.
"If a business is not on the business rates list but falls within the same sector and has been materially impacted, they may qualify for a discretionary grant of £2,000," said a council statement.
The same support is also available to supply chain businesses and those forced to close within the specified sectors if they have been badly impacted.
Cllr Aled Davies, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “As a council we continue to pay out millions of pounds in cash to businesses up and down our county.
“We know these are particularly hard times for businesses, so we are making every effort to make the payments as quickly as possible.
“Around 2,000 people in Powys have already received their grants, which are proving to be a welcome sight in bank accounts and a weight off shoulders.
“Please don’t forget about the discretionary or supply chain elements to this scheme because they allow us to help many more businesses.
“I want to thank every Powys resident who is doing their bit to keep people safe. These are very strange times, but please keep following the guidance so that we can finally overcome this awful virus.”
