One of the region's major construction companies is to open an office in Newtown.

Pave Aways is to open a regional office at Ladywell House just months after completing a refurbishment of the property for Powys County Council.

It head office is located in Wrexham. It has worked on several high profile projects for the county council in the area over recent years, including local schools.

The company said the office will open when the country’s latest lockdown ends. The company has not said how many staff will be based at the office.

Pave Aways completed the £2.1m refurbishment of Ladywell House last year. The contract was with the Heart of Wales Property Service, a joint venture between the county council and Kier.

Ladywell House was built for the Development Board for Rural Wales until it was merged with the Welsh Development Agency in 1999 and then became a regional office for the Welsh Government, which still has offices there.

Other businesses and organisations have also had offices in the building.

Managing Director Steven Owen said: “We already have a strong presence in Mid Wales and have worked on some key schemes in the region but this will allow us to provide a specific focus for our clients in the county.

“We believe in having a positive impact on the area where we work and the addition of our new office will have a beneficial effect on the local economy. It will enable us to enhance the community support and education and training opportunities we can offer.”
