Two housing complexes, including one which had just one resident in it, have been refurbished and are being re-let to council tenants.
Clywedog House and Camlad House at Treowen have been refurbished by SWG Group in partnership with Powys County Council Housing, creating 16 new apartments.
The properties were originally built for the former Development Board for Rural Wales before being transferred to the county council.
One of the sites has been empty and the other was left with just one tenant.
Jacqui Gough of SWG Group said: “We are thrilled to see the transformation of these buildings, which were not fit for purpose before.
“A raft of improvements have been made to create a comfortable living environment.
“Bringing empty buildings back into use is also something SWG Group is pleased to be able to accomplish.”
The project created 16 new homes for residents which also have new sprinkler systems and fire alarms to improve fire safety and increased energy efficiency through additional insulation to provide sound proofing.
Externally there was full resurfacing & landscaping, as well as new bin stores created to promote recycling.
Alan Corbett, Project Officer at Powys County Council, said: “On behalf of Powys County Council we are pleased to conclude the programme to refurbish both Camlad and Clywedog House, in Newtown.
“These complex projects have been delivered via a successful partnership between Powys County Council Housing and SWG Construction.
“Tenants are already enjoying the benefits in Camlad house and we will be letting properties within Clywedog House early in 2021."
