Christmas lights switched on 'virutally'

Singing, dancing and a live laser show entertained Newtown residents last night for the town's first online Christmas lights switch on.

The live-streamed event included individual singing videos, a speech by the Mayor, Cllr David Selby, and other entertainment before the town's Christmas lights were switched on in the town centre.

A laser display was also put on for residents to see over the town from their homes.
The event was organised by Newtown Town Council and Celf and was held online due to the Coronavirus regulations.

Some residents said at one stage they couldn't view the web-based event due to the demand, although the majority of people congratulated the organisers for the event.
