Shopping centre gets into the festive spirit

Newtown's Bear Lanes shopping centre is getting into the festive spirit by offering local businesses the chance to show off their wares in some of its vacant units.

The shopping centre is taking part in Newtown Town Council's Christmas Window  Competition. It's encouraging businesses in the town to decorate their windows with festive scenes.

The competition is titled "Cheerful Local Christmas."

"Bear Lanes wants to help brighten up the town and encourage local shoppers to enjoy a day of shopping with decorative window arrangements to glance at as they walk around," said a spokesperson.

"With several vacant unites available (and ready to be dressed in a festive fashion), the centre is working on a first come, first served basis."

The judging will take place on Sunday, 28th November, with certificates being issued to the winning window(s) at the beginning of the following week.

This will include an opportunity for photos and publicity, which will be arranged to encourage local shopping and supporting the local businesses in the area.

Kae Margetts, Centre Manager said: "We're looking to bring the local community together this Christmas by providing them with the opportunity to add a bit of extra Christmas magic to Bear Lanes Shopping Centre in time for the Christmas lights switch on, on 28th November. The switch on will be a virtual online event, organised by Celf Your Health and run by volunteers."
