Last few garden waste collections

06/11/2020 @ 09:51
The last few collections of Powys County Council's garden waste scheme will take place over the coming weeks.

The council said Newtown residents who are subscribed to the scheme should ensure all garden waste is put through the disposal process within the last few collections.

The service, which begins in March each year, collects garden waste fortnightly until the first week of December.

The council said residents can check their remaining collection dates by referring to to the 2020 subscription sticker on your green bin, or visit: https://en.powys.gov.uk/binday

Subscriptions for the 2021 service will be open in January, with the services resuming in early March.

Cllr Heulwen Hulme, Cabinet Member for Recycling and Waste, said: “Many of us are really busy in the gardens at this time of year. Tidying up after the summer and getting things prepared for spring. So, we are keen to remind our residents to make the most of the last few remaining garden waste collections of 2020.

“So far this year, with the help of participating households, more than 4,000 tonnes of garden waste have been collected and recycled into compost

“Of course, while the service takes its winter break, you can still recycle your garden waste by composting it at home or by taking it to one of the five household waste and recycling centres in Powys once the lockdown restrictions are lifted.”
