Staff and volunteers of the Newtown-based Citizens Advice Powys have been praised for their hard work during the Covid-19 pandemic, dealing with more than 3,000 calls.

Even during the latest lockdown the staff and volunteers have been working from home to help people in need of advice, according to its newly appointed Chief Officer, Yasmin Bell.

She said since 1st April 2020 volunteers have been working remotely and have assisted Citizens Advice to deal with over 3,000 client calls.

A telephone volunteer assessor said: “We have been getting lots of calls about employment issues and worries about redundancy. People are worried about their finances and how they’re going to manage.”

Yasmin Bell said: “I can’t thank our volunteers enough for their continued commitment and hard work.

"We are very proud of our highly skilled team and the crucial part they play in providing access to our advice team." The advice we provide makes such a difference to people’s lives. Access to our advice services is vital during these hard times. We are working hard to ensure that we continue to offer services to meet the increase in demand.”

Mr A, a single parent of three, was unable to work since the pandemic due to his deteriorating health. Mr A contacted Citizens Advice Powys for help.

“I was so lost I had no idea I could truly be helped. I cannot truly describe how very helpful, re-assuring and professional the service I have received.

"My caseworker from Citizens Advice Powys has been outstanding in every way, she has got me out of a deep deep hole. My gratitude is massive. I don’t know where I would be now without the CAB. Thank you.”

Anyone needing help from Citizens Advice Powys can call 0345 601 8421 Mon to Friday 9am to 3pm.  Leave details and we will call back.
