Bike station will provide secure cycle storage

Newtown could soon have its first secure bike storage station for the public to use.

Open Newtown, in conjunction with the town council, is looking to site the 'Bike Hub' close to the new Hafren Playpark in the town.

It would provide a secure and locked bike system for the public to use.

Stuart Owen of Open Newtown has told town councillors that as well as providing a service for local people to use in the town centre, it would also attract cyclists to travel to the area knowing they can store their bikes safely.

Broad Street and High Street already have bike stands where bicycles can be locked to, but these are less secure and open to the elements.

Many towns throughout the UK are now offering such bike storage systems for shoppers and commuters, including at railway stations, town centres and tourist locations.
