Another jump in positive Newtown Covid-19 cases

29/10/2020 @ 04:06
Positive coronavirus cases have jumped again in Newtown with 77 cases now confirmed, up from 23 reported yesterday.

The latest figures published by Public Health Wales include 51 cases (822.3 per 100,000) in Newtown North and 26 cases (517.9 per 100,000) in Newtown South.

The figures are released daily based on the previous seven days.

The worrying rise comes as Powys County Council urged parents not to send their children to school next week if they feel unwell.

However, the jump from 23 to 77 cases in 24 hours demonstrates the rise in positive cases.

It was confirmed yesterday that a cluster of cases is located at the Bethshan Nursing Home where a number of staff and residents have provided positive test results.

Other areas are:

Llanfair Caereinion and Caersws - 43 cases (699.3 per 100,000)

Llanidloes, Blaen Hafren, Llandinam - 28 cases (430.6 per 100,000)

Abermule, Churchstoke and Kerry - 18 cases (319.5 per 100,000)

The total for Powys stands at 818 - 617.7 per 100,000. There have been 21,029 tests with a 3.9 per cent positive result.
