New round of grants offered for Covid-19

27/10/2020 @ 06:58

Newtown community groups and organisations undertaking work related to supporting the community during the coronavirus situation are being offered to apply for grants from the town council.

The first round of the Newtown Community Grant Scheme earlier this year was oversubscribed and some groups didn't receive the full amount they applied for.

Town councillors were last night told there was now a surplus of £4,000 which could be offered as part of another round of grants.

Groups that have already received funding cannot re-apply, said Cllr John Barker. However, he asked councillors to consider offering groups that did not receive the full amount they applied for in the first round to be offered a top-up.

Some councillors were concerned that such groups might have found funding elsewhere and so would not need the funding. However, they voted in favour of going back to the groups to see if they still needed funding. This included Newtown Scouts.

Councillor unanimously agreed to open up another round of grants to use the surplus money.

Groups will be able to apply through the town council.
