Newtown will resemble the the Spring of this year from 6pm on Friday night as a national lockdown is implemented in Wales.

Residents are being told to stay at home and to only venture out for essential shopping and exercise and not to mix with other households until 9 November.

Non-essential retail businesses, including pubs, cafes and restaurants, must close, although businesses such as local manufacturers and where workers cannot work from home can continue.

The Newtown Network, set up in the last lockdown, is offering help and support.

The Mayor, Cllr David Selby, said: "Let’s keep in touch with each other in the ways that can keep in touch. For those that need extra help the Newtown Network has distributed a Directory to every household in the town giving details of the organisations that are able to help.  One telephone number to bring support 0333 996 1124."
