Former Montgomeryshire MP and regional Member of the Welsh Parliament, Glyn Davies, has been elected Chair of the Welsh Conservative Party.

Mr Davies, who lives at Berriew, was elected at the weekend. He will also serve as a member of the Executive Board of the UK Conservative Party.

“Following my over 40 years in public life, I thought I had retired at the last General Election in December. But I have been tempted to return as Chair of the Wales Conservative Party and Board Member of the UK Conservative Party," he said.

“During my life in representative public life and the political world, the Conservative and Unionist Party has been hugely supportive, through good times and not so good times. From my new position as Chairman of the Wales Party and Member of the UK Conservative Party Board, I hope to use whatever experience I’ve developed to support and help deliver success for the Party in Wales and across the UK.”

“I fully realise that I have taken on a challenging role. The Wales Conservative Party is about to implement a ‘root and branch’ review of all aspects of the Welsh party. And against the background of the McInnis Review and the restrictions associated with the coronavirus pandemic, we need to prepare as quickly as possible for the Senedd elections in May.”

"I am looking forwards to my new role, even though I realise the scale of its challenge. The hard work starts this week.”
