Names proposed for new social housing site

02/09/2020 @ 07:35
Three names are being suggested for the development of new apartments on the former Bowling Green site in Back Lane.

The development of the site was delayed after the construction company working for Powys County Council went into administration over a year ago.

Work is due to begin and now the county council has written to Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council with three names it is considering for the development.

They are:

Maes Y Parc (Parklands)
Y Lawny (The Green)
Y Llanerch (The Glade)

"The latter has a connection with Robert Owen, who set up his factory at New Lanark, with the word Lanark being of the same origin and meaning as Llannerch," said Jim Knight in an email to the town council.

"As you know, Powys County Council have to make the final decision, but we would welcome knowledge of the Town Council’s preferred option?."
