Strong "diesel" smell still near river

Residents are still reporting a strong smell of diesel in the Dolfor brook leading to the Rover Severn close to the Scout Hut.

For months residents and walkers in the area have reported the smell as well as a film of oil on the surface of the river at time.

Natural Resources Wales investigated the smell and slick but has so far been unable to identify the source of the substance.

In June the Welsh Government organisation urged local property owners with oil-fired heating systems to check their tanks for leaks.

They had also checked local businesses with oil and petrol on site and said these were not losing fuel into the ground.

Booms were placed on the river to catch the oil film on the water.

NRW has been asked to comment.
