Newtown will be battered by more heavy rain and high winds today as Storm Francis hits the area with a Yellow weather warning in place from 8am.

The Met Office said areas could expect flooding and damage to property, including debris being blow around by the high winds.

Rain has continued throughout the night and with more on the way local streams and rivers are expected to burst their banks, while the River Severn is already high due to recent heavy rain in the area.

Motorists are being urged to drive carefully, while the National Trust has decided to close nearby Powis Castle's gardens as a precaution.

The Yellow weather warning continues until 8am on Wednesday.

"Heavy rain during Tuesday and early Wednesday is expected to result in some flooding and disruption to travel," said a Met Office spokesperson.
