Museum welcomes visitors back

Visitors have flocked to a Newtown museum to show support and find out more about the town's history after it re-opened, according to organisers.

The Newtown Textile Museum opened its doors last week after closing due to the coronavirus situation.

Newtown Mayor, Cllr David Selby, who is also a member of the museum's committee, said they had been very happy at seeing so many people visit the museum on Commercial Street.

He said all the necessary social distancing measures worked and everyone had a safe visit.

"There was relief and joy to welcome our first visitors of the season. All the necessary precautions to keep visitors and hosts safe from Covid are in place and ready for visitors from 12 – 4 every Tuesday and Friday until the end of September."

He added: "This museum opening is another wonderful example of our town re-opening.  There is plenty to see for both locals and for visitors."

"Last Tuesday 30 visitors visited the museum to spend time learning about the rich industrial and social history of our town and to see the football exhibition about the cup winning Newtown football team before the First World War.

"You can just turn up when you fancy but you might have to wait to be allowed in, because of social distancing. To avoid this you can book a free timed ticket in advance by following the link to Eventbrite on the Museum’s website: www.newtowntextilemuseum.co.uk."
